During the 8th European Political Community summit in Yerevan, discussions focused on connecting the South Caucasus to Europe via Georgia, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said in an interview with Georgian media.
“We ensure the connection of seven countries to the Black Sea and the West. This topic will be discussed during panels and roundtables, as Georgia, as a transit link for Europe, plays an important role,” he said, according to Sputnik Armenia.
Kobakhidze participated in a roundtable titled “Strengthening Connectivity and Economic Security,” where he emphasized Georgia’s role in advancing regional transport and economic integration and presented ongoing infrastructure projects.
Among them, he highlighted the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway, the development of high-speed highways, and the Anaklia deep-sea port project. The prime minister also stressed the importance of diversifying transport and energy routes, pointing to the Southern Gas Corridor and a planned Black Sea submarine cable project.
According to him, developing connectivity remains a key prerequisite for long-term stability, and Georgia is ready to expand cooperation with international partners.
On the sidelines of the summit, Kobakhidze also held a brief meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
On May 4, Yerevan hosted the 8th European Political Community summit, bringing together European leaders.
