Ukraine president highlights renewed Armenia dialogue

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said his trip marked the first visit by a Ukrainian head of state to Armenia in the past 24 years, commenting on his participation in the European Political Community summit in Yerevan and his meeting with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

“I had a good meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Thank you for the invitation to the European Political Community summit. This is the first visit of a Ukrainian president to Armenia in 24 years. It is important that we are restoring active dialogue between our countries,” he wrote on X.

He added that the regional situation was discussed.

“I presented diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving real peace. We also discussed the development of our economic partnership. I proposed resuming the work of the intergovernmental joint commission on economic cooperation and holding its next meeting in Kyiv this year,” the Ukrainian president wrote.

During the meeting between Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, held on the sidelines of the summit, the sides exchanged views on regional and global developments, emphasizing the need to promote stable and lasting peace, the Armenian government’s press service said.

“The parties discussed prospects for developing Armenia–Ukraine bilateral cooperation, highlighting the importance of deepening collaboration in areas of mutual interest,” the statement said.

On May 4, Yerevan hosted the 8th European Political Community summit, followed by the first Armenia–European Union summit scheduled for May 5. Around 50 high-level delegations arrived in Armenia, including European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. French President Emmanuel Macron also visited, while Volodymyr Zelenskyy made his first trip to Armenia.
