French President Emmanuel Macron, who arrived in Armenia on a state visit, paid tribute to the victims of the Armenian Genocide at the Tsitsernakaberd memorial complex together with Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan.
Macron and Khachaturyan laid a wreath at the memorial honoring the victims, then placed flowers at the eternal flame along with members of their delegations. The French president also left a note in the guestbook of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, Armenpress reported.
Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan and Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan also attended the ceremony.
Macron’s state visit to Armenia began on May 5. A one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is scheduled, followed by an expanded meeting between the delegations. After the signing of documents, the two leaders will make statements to the media.
During the visit, Macron and Pashinyan will also travel to Gyumri to attend a concert dedicated to Armenian-French friendship.
