The opposition’s main objective is to bring voters to the polls and consolidate support around the leading opposition force, Avetik Chalabyan, co-founder of the Hayakve initiative, has said.
“The current authorities, who do not obey any law at all, whose members are universally engaged in distributing election bribes under the guise of social assistance and promises, raising pensions and lowering taxes a month before the elections, clearly understand that this entire toolkit has, in some sense, exhausted itself and no longer influences electoral sentiment,” he said during the campaign launch of the Strong Armenia party outside the National Assembly, Panorama.am reported.
He stated that Samvel Karapetyan is the leading figure in the opposition camp because the public wants to see a new force and fresh faces.
“A new force that is not only unrelated to Pashinyan and his administration, but also to former authorities, and is ready to bring new approaches and take new responsibility. That is why they have already left Robert Kocharyan, Serzh Sargsyan, Gagik Tsarukyan and Levon Ter-Petrosyan aside and directed all their propaganda and administrative resources against Strong Armenia. That is not surprising,” Chalabyan said.
He expressed confidence that the authorities would fail because such tactics are no longer producing results.
Chalabyan noted that no sociological survey has shown the current authorities holding an absolute advantage, but instead has recorded an advantage for the opposition camp.
He added that the key issue is preventing the fragmentation of the opposition’s 70 percent support base.
The election campaign that began on May 8 will continue until June 5. June 6 will be a day of silence, and elections will be held on June 7.
