Pashinyan says opponents should work in prisons

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed representatives of the opposition during a rally in Yeghegnadzor, saying that if “they work at all, they should work in prisons.”

“I completely disagree with the previous speaker on one issue — I agree 50%, disagree 50%. I agree that those people he mentioned (opposition representatives — ed.) will learn Armenian. But I do not agree that we should release those people into the labor market. I think that if they work at all, they should work in penitentiary institutions,” he said, according to Factor.am.

The prime minister also said he understands citizens who ask why those individuals are not already behind bars.

“And I understand all those people who ask: why are they not in prison yet? I think today this is even more visible and understandable to you, because over the past eight years we have faced and resolved numerous challenges, gone through many hardships, but all this has been accompanied by a parallel process that continues even now, at this very moment. We must admit that although for eight years we have governed Armenia as the government, for eight years we have literally been fighting and waging war against the mafia,” Pashinyan stated.

The election campaign, which began on May 8, will continue until June 5. June 6 will be a day of silence, while the elections will take place on June 7.
