Museums across Armenia to host special events

International Museum Day is celebrated annually on May 18. This year’s theme is “Museums Unite a Fragmented World,” emphasizing the important role museums play as platforms for cultural dialogue, mutual understanding and preservation of universal values.

As part of the celebrations, one of the country’s most anticipated cultural events — Museum Night — will take place on May 16.

On that day, numerous museums across Armenia will remain open until late at night, presenting special cultural programs for visitors. Guests will have the opportunity to explore museum collections in new formats, participate in interactive events and enjoy a rich cultural atmosphere.

Museums participating in the international initiative will organize exhibitions, educational programs, master classes, public discussions and special tours designed for different age groups and interests.

The initiative aims to increase public interest in cultural heritage, strengthen ties between museums and society, and highlight the role of culture in building a cohesive and united community.

On May 16, participating museums will admit visitors free of charge from 11:00 a.m. until midnight, while on May 18 museums will operate according to their regular schedules.

International Museum Day was established in 1977 by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) to unite museums around global challenges facing society and humanity and to raise awareness about the important role of museums. The “Museum Night” program was launched in 2005 on the initiative of France’s Ministry of Culture and Communication under the patronage of ICOM, UNESCO and the Council of Europe. Armenia joined the initiative in 2005.
