Armenia’s Prosecutor General’s Office sent a request to Belarusian authorities on January 10, 2025, seeking the extradition of Nver Tsarukyan, son of Prosperous Armenia Party leader Gagik Tsarukyan, for criminal prosecution in Armenia, the Prosecutor General’s Office said, according to Armenpress.
On November 14, 2025, Belarus’ Prosecutor General’s Office informed Armenian authorities that the extradition request would be reviewed under the applicable international agreement after Tsarukyan is located and detained in Belarus.
On May 12, Armenian Prime Minister and Civil Contract party candidate Nikol Pashinyan said during an election campaign event in Yerevan’s Shengavit district that Tsarukyan’s son would be brought back from Belarus, Sputnik Armenia reported.
According to Pashinyan, Tsarukyan’s son had “never fired a shot on the front line,” but had fired shots in Armenia’s Kotayk region and is now in hiding.
“I will bring you to your knees, Gagik Tsarukyan. Has your tongue gotten too long? I’m telling you, we will drag your boy back from Belarus by the neck and hold him accountable. No one will save him,” Pashinyan declared.
Gagik Tsarukyan commented on the prime minister’s remarks.
“Everywhere in the world, there are rules and standards in politics that you never speak about children, family, or parents. I am not going to lower my standards either,” he said.
Regarding his son, the Prosperous Armenia leader said he would complete his affairs and return to Armenia after June 7.
As for the shooting incident in Kotayk, Tsarukyan said that whoever opened fire should bear responsibility.
Responding to criticism that he avoids condemning Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko for congratulating Ilham Aliyev on Azerbaijan’s victory in the 44-day war, Tsarukyan called Lukashenko his friend and urged people not to mix friendship with interstate relations.
Nver Tsarukyan is on an international wanted list following a shooting incident at a casino in Tsaghkadzor. On October 26, 2024, an argument between employees of the Cosmos casino and Tsarukyan along with his bodyguards escalated into a fight, during which shots were fired.
