At an extraordinary session on May 14, Armenia’s Central Election Commission revoked the registration of 45 parliamentary candidates.
Self-withdrawal applications were submitted by a total of 45 candidates included in the electoral lists of the Republic Party, Against Everyone, Bright Armenia, Armenian National Congress, Wings of Unity, Kochari National Revival and Awakening of Nation, Alliance Progressive Centrist Party, and the For Republic Alliance of Democracy Defenders.
Some of the submitted withdrawal requests were notarized as required by law, while applicants whose documents lacked notarization appeared in person at the CEC session.
The commission rejected one candidate’s self-withdrawal request because it had not been notarized and the candidate failed to attend the session.
Under Armenia’s Electoral Code, parliamentary candidates may withdraw no later than 10 days before voting day, until 6 p.m. on May 28. The same deadline also applies to political parties and alliances participating in the elections.
The commission also filled one vacant position each in Territorial Electoral Commissions No. 15, No. 19 and No. 29 through the preferential voting procedure.
Campaigning for Armenia’s parliamentary elections scheduled for June 7 began on May 8 and will continue until June 5. Nineteen political forces — two alliances and 17 parties — have registered to participate.
