Concerns grow over Armenian prisoners’ safety

The message of former Artsakh Foreign Minister Davit Babayan concerns the public disclosure of shocking facts regarding reprisals, abuses and widespread violations of the rights of Armenian prisoners in Baku, wrote Tigran Abrahamyan, secretary of the I Have Honor parliamentary faction.

“Davit’s statement complemented the remarks made days earlier by former Artsakh National Assembly Speaker Davit Ishkhanyan, where the unprecedented chain of illegal actions in Azerbaijan and the situational deadlock were also strongly emphasized.

But above all, I am concerned about the safety of our prisoners, because under the criminal inaction of Armenia’s authorities, Azerbaijan is acting from a position of impunity, creating a serious threat to the lives and health of Armenian prisoners,” he wrote.

Davit Babayan addressed Armenia’s Human Rights Defender and international human rights advocates through an audio message from a prison in Baku, stating that letters addressed to the appellate court had disappeared. He said international norms of humanity, justice and fairness are being grossly violated in relation to them. According to him, what is happening is nothing other than an ethno-political vendetta directed against the past, present and future of the Armenian people.

He appealed to everyone to help them in the current situation in the name of justice, protection of human rights and genuine peace.
