Preventive measures have been imposed on all 10 individuals detained in connection with incidents during the Civil Contract party’s election campaign in the Lori province communities of Norashen and Metsavan, Armenian Investigative Committee spokesperson Kimа Avdalyan said on Facebook.
“During the preliminary investigation of the criminal proceedings launched over the obstruction of the normal course of the ‘Civil Contract’ party’s election campaign on May 16 in the settlements of Norashen and Metsavan in Lori province by a group of supporters of the Strong Armenia alliance, public criminal prosecution was initiated against 10 individuals, of whom six were placed in pre-trial detention, while four were subjected to house arrest,” the statement said.
It added that active investigative measures are underway “to provide legal assessment of the actions of other individuals involved in the alleged crime.”
On May 16, supporters of Samvel Karapetyan, leader and prime ministerial candidate of the “Strong Armenia” party, blocked the road of supporters of Civil Contract candidate Nikol Pashinyan in the Lori province community of Tashir. Ten people were subsequently detained on suspicion of obstructing campaign activities. By May 18, it had become known that six of them had been jailed, one placed under house arrest, while court hearings for three others had not yet taken place.
