Tatoyan alleges Azerbaijani election interference

Wings of Unity party prime ministerial candidate Arman Tatoyan spoke during a Facebook livestream about what he described as Azerbaijani interference in Armenia’s elections and said he would send evidence to the European Union delegation in Armenia.

“A new case of Azerbaijani interference in our elections in favor of the re-election of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and the Civil Contract party,” he said.

Tatoyan recalled that some time ago, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that “Armenians need psychiatrists, psychologists and doctors,” but there was no response from the Armenian authorities. He added that similar publications later appeared in Azerbaijan, while one Azerbaijani lawmaker threatened that Armenians “must finally come to their senses” and that “before the elections Armenian society should be shown the iron fist.”

“This is obvious interference. If, based on statements by the authorities, the EU is fighting against Russian interference, which is good, then Azerbaijani interference should also be equally prevented.

We must protect the Armenian people so that we make our choice not out of fear, but in the interests of our country and people,” Tatoyan said.

The European Union has allocated funding to Armenia to combat Russian interference in the elections.
