Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that Armenia treats Russia “with respect and reverence,” describing the country as a global power while commenting on relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenia-Russia cooperation during a meeting in Shnogh.
“Over the past eight years, we have had more than 200 telephone conversations… We have very warm relations with the Russian president,” Pashinyan said, claiming that Putin has not met more frequently with any other foreign leader, according to Panorama.am .
He added that Armenia would not take any abrupt actions against Russia.
“We treat Russia’s interests with the utmost respect, but we cannot place Russia’s interests above our own,” Pashinyan stated.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk earlier said that the May 29 meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Astana would include discussions on Armenia’s status within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). He noted that economic and political issues are closely interconnected.
