National Assembly deputy Tigran Abrahamyan from the “I Have Honor” parliamentary faction said that “the authorities’ hysterical behavior, labeling rivals as agents, staging fake terrorist scenarios and attributing them to the opposition all serve one purpose — to justify unlawful arrests and the use of force.” He made the remarks in a Facebook post.
“I am not even talking yet about the fact that under certain scripted developments, under the false alarm of a ‘terrorist threat,’ they may completely cancel the elections or their results.
“This monstrous process of terrorizing their own people is being sponsored by several Western actors whose goal is not democratic elections or Armenia’s development, but rather using our country for their own geopolitical purposes,” Abrahamyan wrote.
Armenia’s Investigative Committee earlier reported that a criminal case had been launched against a group of individuals over a video containing what investigators described as a real threat to assassinate the prime minister in connection with his state and political activities and motivated by political views.
