Strong Armenia vows defamation lawsuit

Narek Karapetyan, who heads the electoral list of the Strong Armenia alliance, addressed recent publications concerning himself and his uncle, alliance leader Samvel Karapetyan, during a Facebook livestream, rejecting the allegations.

He stated that Samvel Karapetyan had never engaged in any activity outside Armenia other than business.

“Yesterday was a day of fake stories — one about me allegedly holding citizenship of another country, and another about Samvel Karapetyan allegedly working in Russia’s state system. Samvel Karapetyan has never been involved in anything outside Armenia other than business,” he said.

Karapetyan also again declared that he has never held any foreign citizenship.

The Strong Armenia party announced that it plans to sue the ruling Civil Contract party for defamation, specifically over publications and statements concerning Samvel and Narek Karapetyan. The party’s legal team has already begun preparing lawsuits.

On May 19, the media outlet The Insider published a report claiming that Samvel Karapetyan received a foreign passport in Russia in 1999 and that leaked passport records listed “FSB Information Center” in the “place of work” field.
