Aram I raises concerns over Vatican-Baku conference

During his visit to the Vatican, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia Aram I met with Cardinal Koovakad, who oversees interreligious relations, emphasizing peaceful coexistence and cooperation among religions.

Aram I again addressed the one-sided approaches toward Artsakh and the Armenian Church displayed during a conference organized by Azerbaijan nearly a year ago at the Pontifical Gregorian University, the press service of the Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia reported.

“The Cardinal provided the necessary explanations regarding the Vatican’s dialogue with Azerbaijan, while also stressing that his department should continue carrying out the necessary work concerning the issues raised by His Holiness,” the Catholicosate statement said.

The Cardinal also agreed on the need to expand the agenda. At the conclusion of the meeting, His Holiness presented Koovakad with a commemorative gift depicting the Virgin Mary.

The meeting in the Vatican was a continuation of discussions held in Kazakhstan in the summer of 2025, when Aram I had again raised the issue of the Azerbaijan-organized conference at the Pontifical Gregorian University.
