Edmon Marukyan, the prime ministerial candidate of the Bright Armenia party, said the party will support neither incumbent Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, nor Armenia’s second president Robert Kocharyan, nor the Strong Armenia alliance led by Samvel Karapetyan.
“We support the election of a compromise prime minister and will not allow any force to establish absolute power or usurp authority,” Marukyan stressed during an interview in Kapan, according to Factor.am .
Addressing foreign policy and security issues, Marukyan ruled out granting any privileged corridor through Syunik and added that no concessions or negotiations are possible without clarifying the status of Nagorno-Karabakh.
Marukyan also emphasized that after the parliamentary elections scheduled for June 7, the state should officially apologize to the Armenian Apostolic Church on June 8 and halt all campaigns directed against the church. According to him, the Constitution obliges the state to protect and cooperate with the church.
The election campaign that began on May 8 will continue until June 5. June 6 will be observed as a day of silence, while elections will take place on June 7.
