Bright Armenia party leader Edmon Marukyan considers all individuals involved in criminal proceedings over the past year to be political prisoners. He made the statement outside the National Security Service building, where the party is conducting its election campaign.
“All those individuals against whom criminal proceedings have been launched over the last four to five months, and even during the past year before that, are political prisoners, starting with Samvel Karapetyan. The case involving Archbishop Bagrat was among the first,” Marukyan said, according to Sputnik Armenia.
He also insisted that he does not trust any audio recordings released by law enforcement agencies, especially after what he described as a falsified recording in the case involving Archbishop Bagrat. Marukyan further claimed that “the entire population is currently being wiretapped,” despite calling it a gross violation of the right to privacy.
The election campaign that began on May 8 will continue until June 5. June 6 will be a day of silence, while elections will take place on June 7. On May 25, it became known that the Alliance Progressive Centrist Party submitted a withdrawal request, after which the Central Election Commission invalidated the registration of the party’s electoral list. Ballot number 13 will not appear in the upcoming elections.
