CIS will respond to Armenia’s EU course: Lebedev

The Commonwealth of Independent States will not leave unanswered Armenia’s position regarding European integration plans and the European Political Community summit held in Yerevan, CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev said.

“At the same time, Armenia continues to remain a member of the CIS, the CSTO and the Eurasian Economic Union, and benefits from that membership,” Lebedev said during a roundtable discussion titled “35 Years of the Commonwealth of Independent States: Results, Challenges, Prospects,” according to Sputnik Armenia.

Lebedev also stated that the CIS is currently a deeply integrated organization capable of combining the common interests of member states with national priorities.

According to him, it is necessary to fully use the significant integration potential of the Commonwealth.

On May 4, Yerevan hosted the 8th summit of the European Political Community, followed by the first Armenia-European Union summit. Around 50 high-level delegations arrived in Armenia to participate in the European Political Community summit, including European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. French President Emmanuel Macron also visited Yerevan, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made his first-ever visit to Armenia.
