Trump backs Armenia-Azerbaijan peace efforts

The U.S. continues to support sustainable peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, according to a congratulatory message sent by U.S. President Donald Trump to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on the occasion of Azerbaijan’s Independence Day.

Trump said he was inspired by “Aliyev’s efforts to advance the peace agenda,” APA reported.

“We are also encouraged by the ongoing border delimitation process, the release of four Armenian prisoners in January 2026, fuel supplies to Armenia, as well as the ‘Bridge of Peace’ initiative bringing together the civil societies of the two countries,” Trump’s message said.

At the trilateral meeting held at the White House on August 8 between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, a joint declaration on the results of the Washington meeting was signed.

In Washington, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov initialed the “Agreement on Peace and Establishment of Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan” in the presence of the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and the United States.
