Trump backs Pashinyan ahead of elections

U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed support for Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, saying he is leading Armenia toward a safer and stronger future while sharing his vision for the South Caucasus.

Trump wrote on the Truth Social platform that Pashinyan is making Armenia “strong, prosperous, and very safe.”

“Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia, a good friend and leader, is making his country strong, wealthy and very secure. Nikol fully shares my vision of peace and prosperity for Armenia and the entire South Caucasus region,” the U.S. president wrote, according to Armenpress.

Trump also highlighted agreements signed during U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s visit to Armenia on May 26, describing them as highly significant.

“Our Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently visited Armenia, where he advanced several important deals for our two countries. Soon, the United States and Armenia will jointly launch the ‘Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity’ project, which will transform the South Caucasus and help our great American energy companies gain access from Central Asia to the United States,” Trump added.

The U.S. president also declared support for Pashinyan in the upcoming elections.

“For these reasons, Nikol has my full and complete support for reelection on June 7, 2026. With Nikol’s help, we will take the United States, Armenia, the South Caucasus and Central Asia to greater heights than ever before. Make Armenia stronger again,” Trump concluded.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan thanked Trump for his remarks and positive assessment.

“I thank President Trump for the high praise and friendly words,” Pashinyan wrote on his Facebook page.

A military parade dedicated to the Day of the First Republic of Armenia is taking place in Yerevan for the first time in a decade. The parade features weapons and military equipment acquired from Russia, India, France, Iran, China and other countries. Most of the systems are being displayed publicly for the first time, including TOS-1 heavy flamethrower systems, Russian-made Pole-21 electronic warfare systems, as well as Indian-made Pinaka rocket systems, ATAGS towed howitzers, MArG artillery units, Akash missile systems and anti-tank weapons.

The previous military parade in the capital was held on September 21, 2016, marking the 25th anniversary of Armenia’s independence.
