Rubio says U.S.-Armenia ties are improving

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington is witnessing the emergence of a new and strong relationship with Armenia following his May 26 visit to Yerevan.

Speaking during a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House, Rubio said ties with Armenia had remained stagnant for a long time but are now entering a new phase, Armenpress reports.

“We are now seeing the formation of a new and wonderful relationship with Armenia, which had essentially been stalled for a very long time,” Rubio said.

He noted that one of the places he visited the previous evening was linked to the launch of the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” initiative.

According to Rubio, one of the key foundations of the project is the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“It is the peace agreement that you managed to achieve between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” Rubio told Trump.

Rubio also announced that several important memorandums had been signed with Armenia.

“We signed an important memorandum of understanding on critical minerals, as well as a memorandum on strategic cooperation,” the U.S. secretary of state stated.

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio signed several documents at Yerevan’s Zvartnots Airport. The sides initialed a framework agreement on strategic cooperation related to the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” project and also signed a comprehensive strategic partnership charter between Armenia and the United States.
