Armenia’s second president, Robert Kocharyan, called on citizens to “drive out the enemy within the country” during the June 7 elections, invoking the unity demonstrated during the Battle of Sardarapat.
In a message marking Republic Day, Kocharyan said the Armenian nation had proven in Sardarapat that it could unite during difficult times and save statehood through courage and heroism.
“On June 7, following the example of Sardarapat’s unity, we must show civic courage. Through our vote, we must expel the enemy already located inside our country,” the statement said.
Kocharyan added that Armenia’s “best days are ahead.”
“Glory to the heroes of Sardarapat,” he concluded.
The election campaign, which began on May 8, will continue until June 5. June 6 will be observed as a day of silence, while voting will take place on June 7. On May 25, it became known that the Alliance Progressive Centrist Party had submitted a withdrawal request, after which the Central Electoral Commission invalidated the registration of the party’s electoral list. Ballot paper number 13 will therefore not appear in the upcoming elections.
