Armenia has been consistently removing the phrase Great Patriotic War from draft documents of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
She stated that Armenia has been doing so systematically, arguing that the practice aligns with what she described as a “Western narrative,” which, according to her, Armenian authorities themselves frequently reference, RIA Novosti reports.
“Is the Armenian public aware of this policy pursued by its leadership, which erases, removes and excludes the phrase ‘Great Patriotic War’ from both shared and contemporary documents?” Zakharova said.
She also claimed that the Armenian authorities are “showing inaction regarding plans to dismantle monuments dedicated to war heroes.”
“These are probably the very European narratives they keep talking about,” she added.
Earlier, Zakharova stated that Russia had warned Armenia about the possible termination of agreements on the supply of natural gas, petroleum products and diamonds if Yerevan were to join the European Union.
