Tatoyan vows to reduce dependence on Russia

If his political force comes to power, the Wings of Unity party will work to reduce Armenia’s dependence on Russia, the party’s candidate for prime minister, Arman Tatoyan, said during a Facebook livestream while commenting on Russian restrictions affecting Armenian agricultural exports.

According to Tatoyan, Russian import restrictions primarily harm Armenian farmers and business owners, making it essential to pursue long-term solutions.

“How can you be in power for eight years and fail to solve these issues while knowing such risks exist, all the while making the country even more dependent on Russia? Our team has a clear understanding of what needs to be done. We will definitely reduce dependence on Russia and eliminate dependence on any single state,” he said.

Tatoyan also stressed the need to negotiate and quickly identify new export destinations. He argued that, with state support, Armenia should develop cold-storage infrastructure and organize procurement mechanisms to minimize losses suffered by farmers.

Russia’s Rosselkhoznadzor has announced temporary restrictions, effective May 30, on imports of fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, greens and strawberries originating from or exported through Armenia until an appropriate mechanism is developed to ensure the safety of exported products.
