Reshetnikov says gas issue is sensitive for Armenia

The issue of natural gas is particularly sensitive for Armenia, Russian Economic Development Minister Maxim Reshetnikov said in an interview with the Vesti news service.

“Questions related to gas will be more sensitive. The task is to prevent a negative development of events,” he said, according to Sputnik Armenia.

Reshetnikov added that the course Armenia is currently pursuing could eventually make continued participation in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) impossible.

On May 27, the Russian side delivered a letter to Yerevan regarding the possible unilateral cancellation of agreements on duty-free supplies of natural gas, petroleum products and rough diamonds. At the same time, Rosselkhoznadzor announced that it would restrict imports of certain types of fruits and vegetables from Armenia starting May 30. Earlier, on May 22, the agency had also imposed restrictions on imports of Armenian flowers. In addition, the sale of more than 100 million bottles of Armenian Jermuk mineral water has been suspended in Russia.
