The Bright Armenia party held an election campaign event in the village of Kirants, starting near the well-known border wall, where party chairman Edmon Marukyan commented on its construction and recent developments related to border delimitation.
“This is a wall of shame, because the sides should have agreed that if troops were positioned ahead of the internationally recognized border line, they would withdraw. Instead, what happened is that Armenia pulled back its forces and built this wall,” Marukyan said, according to Radar Armenia.
He noted that photographing the wall is reportedly prohibited, yet Armenia’s Tourism Committee photographed it and presented it on its website as a symbol of peace.
Marukyan also stated that, in his view, Azerbaijan should have responded by returning the occupied farmlands of Berkaber, but that did not happen.
“This is the substance of the negotiations they conducted,” he said.
The election campaign, which began on May 8, will continue until June 5. June 6 will be a day of silence, and voting will take place on June 7. On May 25, the Alliance Progressive Centrist Party announced its withdrawal from the race. Following the request, the Central Electoral Commission revoked the registration of the party’s electoral list. As a result, ballot number 13 will not appear in the upcoming elections.
