Kocharyan to skip public televised debate

Former Armenian President and Hayastan Alliance candidate Robert Kocharyan has announced that he will not participate in the debate among the lead candidates of political forces contesting the June 7 elections.

Speaking on Armenia’s Public Television, Kocharyan said he was dissatisfied with the format of the event.

“I do not like that format. There are 19 people, speaking in very small segments, and it is impossible to properly develop a topic. It is not a good format. I believe it should have been organized differently,” he said.

Public Television of Armenia has announced a series of major pre-election televised debates scheduled for June 1, June 2 and June 4, to be broadcast live.

The final debate on June 4 is expected to feature the first-number candidates heading the electoral lists of the participating political forces.

The election campaign that began on May 8 will continue until June 5. June 6 will be a day of silence, while voting will take place on June 7. On May 25, it became known that the Alliance Progressive Centrist Party had submitted a withdrawal request, after which the Central Electoral Commission annulled the registration of the party’s electoral list. As a result, ballot paper number 13 will not appear in the upcoming elections.
