Arrests made in alleged election bribery case

Operational, investigative and procedural measures carried out by Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Committee and the Kotayk Regional Department of the Criminal Police have uncovered factual evidence suggesting that the head of the Prosperous Armenia Party’s territorial office in the Abovyan community, acting in prior agreement with party members and a group of cooperating individuals, promised and distributed election bribes to a number of voters.

A criminal proceeding has been initiated by the Anti-Corruption Committee in connection with the case.

As part of the investigation, several individuals have been detained, searches have been conducted and other procedural actions have been carried out.

An audio recording related to the case has also been released.

The election campaign, which began on May 8, will continue until June 5. June 6 will be a day of silence, and voting will take place on June 7. On May 25, it became known that the Alliance Progressive Centrist Party had submitted a request to withdraw from the election, after which the Central Electoral Commission invalidated the registration of the party’s electoral list. As a result, there will be no ballot paper numbered 13 in the upcoming elections.
