Suspect in Pashinyan “murder plot” under arrest

A court has ordered the detention of Mher Mirzoyan, who is accused of preparing the murder of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The information was reported by Armenpress, citing the Investigative Committee.

Earlier, it was reported that during the preliminary investigation of a criminal case being examined by the Yerevan Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee, extensive evidentiary and procedural measures were carried out, including numerous searches and nearly two dozen interrogations. As a result, investigators identified one of the individuals allegedly involved in preparing the murder of the Armenian prime minister.

“Specifically, apparent factual data have been obtained indicating that M.M., who has been residing in a foreign country since 2024, acting as part of a group of at least four individuals, intended to unlawfully deprive the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia of his life in connection with his political and state activities. To that end, they acquired means and created conditions for the crime, including obtaining clothing and masks to conceal their identities and collecting information about the prime minister’s locations and campaign routes, thereby preparing the murder.

Subsequently, while wearing the aforementioned clothing and masks, they recorded and distributed a video message addressed to the prime minister, during which threats were made against him. In addition, on May 16, 2026, the individuals intercepted data (video footage) being transmitted during a live broadcast and stored within a system of a website not intended for public use. By publishing the video message, they obstructed election campaigning ahead of the parliamentary elections of the Republic of Armenia scheduled for June 7, 2026,” the Investigative Committee said in a statement.

Public criminal prosecution has been initiated against M.M. under Part 2, Clauses 1 and 8 of Article 43-155 of the Criminal Code (preparation of murder by a group of persons in connection with the victim’s performance of state and political activities), as well as Part 2, Clauses 2 and 5 of Article 211 (obstructing campaigning by a group of persons through other means), according to the statement.

A detention order had previously been issued against him.

The Investigative Committee of Armenia had earlier reported that criminal proceedings were launched in connection with a video containing threats and insults directed at Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. According to investigators, a pre-trial investigation was conducted into alleged preparation of murder by a group of individuals, computer sabotage, and the illegal trafficking of firearms and ammunition.

In a video circulated online on May 18, a group of masked and armed individuals issued threats and insults directed at the prime minister.
