Pashinyan, Erdogan discuss railway exports

Armenian Prime Minister Nikoл Pashinyan held a phone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Pashinyan congratulated Erdogan on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, while Erdogan congratulated Pashinyan on his 51st birthday.

The two sides emphasized the opening of the Akhalkalaki–Kars railway for exports from Armenia and imports into the country.

The leaders also exchanged views on issues on the bilateral agenda and expressed satisfaction with the increased pace of contacts. In particular, they highlighted the visit of Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz to Armenia to attend the European Political Community summit, as well as the decision to establish procedures for direct trade between Turkey and Armenia.

According to Turkey’s Presidential Communications Directorate, the conversation also touched upon the process of normalizing relations between Armenia and Turkey and included discussions on issues of regional importance, Factor.am reported.

According to the statement, Erdogan noted that the normalization process between Armenia and Turkey has continued through steps aimed at launching direct trade. The Turkish president also stressed that Ankara continues to make efforts to establish peace and stability in the region and supports initiatives that advance that goal.
