Strong Armenia would not begin from “its own zero point” if it comes to power, unlike the current authorities, party council member Aram Vardevanyan said when asked whether a future government could revise the peace agreement.
“We will respect the commitments undertaken by Armenia, even when many of them were assumed under pressure,” he said.
Commenting on the document initialed by Armenia and Azerbaijan in Washington in August 2025, Vardevanyan said its content was reasonable but required guarantees to ensure implementation.
“The document contains no provision requiring Armenia to launch constitutional reforms or address the issue of hundreds or thousands of Azerbaijanis. We believe the state of humiliation must be left in the past and that Armenia should move toward a genuinely strong peace,” Vardevanyan said.
On August 8, a joint declaration on the results of the Washington meeting was signed during a trilateral meeting at the White House involving Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
In Washington, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, in the presence of the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and the United States, initialed the Agreement on Peace and the Establishment of Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
