Aleksan Aleksanyan, a member of the coordinating council of the Mer Dzevov movement, has been placed in pretrial detention for two months, according to Armenia’s Investigative Committee, Sputnik Armenia reported.
The Investigative Committee said that A.A. (Aleksan Aleksanyan), a supporter of the Strong Armenia party, was detained on charges of financially encouraging individuals to participate in public gatherings and of money laundering.
According to investigators, between September 2025 and May 2026, Alexanyan allegedly hired around 1,400 citizens through service contracts at the offices of the Mer Dezvov NGO in order to recruit participants for rallies and demonstrations organized by the Strong Armenia party and the Mer Dezvov movement. More than 400 of those individuals were reportedly employed simultaneously by other companies.
The election campaign, which began on May 8, will continue until June 5. June 6 will be a day of silence, while voting is scheduled for June 7.
On May 25, it became known that the Alliance Progressive Centrist Party had submitted a request to withdraw from the election. Based on that application, the Central Electoral Commission invalidated the registration of the party’s electoral list. As a result, ballot paper No. 13 will not appear in the upcoming elections.
