Armenia, France boost tech, defense partnership

Armenia and France will deepen strategic cooperation in the fields of military industry, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and semiconductors, Minister of High-Tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan said in a Facebook post.

He noted that a memorandum of understanding was signed on cooperation in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and semiconductors. The document was signed with France’s Minister Delegate for European Affairs Benjamin Haddad.

“The memorandum aims to promote cooperation between the two countries in these strategic sectors by developing research and innovation capacities and supporting joint projects. It covers a wide range of areas, including high-performance computing infrastructure, data science and machine learning, digitalization of public services, and the application of artificial intelligence across various sectors of the economy,” he wrote.

The minister added that another key document was signed between Armenia’s Ministry of High-Tech Industry and France’s Ministry of Defense.

“The memorandum was signed together with France’s Minister Delegate for the Armed Forces and Veterans Alice Rufo.

The document is aimed at deepening cooperation in military technologies, as well as research, development, and innovation in defense systems. It sets a framework for joint activities, including experience exchange, implementation of joint projects, and development of the defense industry,” he said.

According to Hayrapetyan, the signed documents create new opportunities for expanding Armenian-French cooperation in high-tech sectors, contributing to technological progress, the development of innovation ecosystems, and the strengthening of the strategic partnership.

Earlier, Armenia and France signed a joint declaration establishing a strategic partnership, with the document signed by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and President Emmanuel Macron during Macron’s state visit to Armenia.
